Struve, Traynor to Receive Honors at Annual Meeting

The ALI Council has designated Guy Miller Struve of New York City to receive the Institute's John Minor Wisdom Award, while ALI Council Chair and President Emeritus Michael Traynor of Berkeley, CA, has been chosen to receive ALI's Distinguished Service Award. Both awards will be presented when the Institute convenes for its Annual Meeting in San Francisco on May 16.

Guy Miller StruveThe Wisdom Award, given from time to time, recognizes a member's outstanding contributions to the work of the Institute. ALI Reporters, officers, and Council members are not eligible for the Award. Mr. Struve, a partner in the litigation department at Davis Polk & Wardwell, has been an ALI member for 37 years. He serves as an Adviser for the Restatement Third, Torts: Economic Torts and Related Wrongs, and was also an Adviser for the ALI's project on Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments. He has been an active participant in more than a dozen Members Consultative Groups and rarely misses an Annual Meeting.

Michael TraynorThe Distinguished Service Award is given from time to time to a member who over many years has played a major role in the Institute as an institution, accepting significant burdens as an officer or committee chair. Mr. Traynor, now senior counsel with Cobalt LLP, joined ALI in 1972 and became a member of its Council in 1985. He has served continuously and with dedication as an ALI officer since 1993, most significantly as President from 2000 to 2008. His three-year term as Chair of the Council will expire at the conclusion of the 2011 Annual Meeting. Mr. Traynor has also been involved in numerous ALI projects as an Adviser or on the Members Consultative Group.

Spring Meetings Offer Opportunities for Members to Get Involved in New Projects

For Principles of Government Ethics, whose Reporter is Richard Briffault of Columbia University School of Law, the MCG will meet at the Hay-Adams in Washington, DC, on March 4, while the Advisers will meet there on March 5. The initial meeting of Advisers for Principles of the Law of Liability Insurance will take place at ALI Headquarters in Philadelphia on March 10; the MCG will meet in Philadelphia on March 11. Professor Tom Baker of the University of Pennsylvania Law School serves as Reporter for this project and Professor Kyle D. Logue of the University of Michigan Law School is the Associate Reporter.
