Donald M. Maclay retired on June 30 as Deputy Director of the American Law Institute-American Bar Association Committee on Continuing Professional Education (ALI-ABA). Mr. Maclay, who this year completed 30 years of service with ALI-ABA, was succeeded by Lawrence F. Meehan, who had been serving as Director of ALI-ABAs American Law Network. Don Maclay joined ALI-ABA in 1969 as Director of the Course Department and as such played a major part in the ensuing expansion of ALI-ABAs role as a national provider of continuing legal education. In 1987 he was appointed to the post of Deputy Director by ALI-ABA Executive Director Paul A. Wolkin, and he remained in that position when Mr. Wolkin was succeeded in 1993 by the current Executive Director, Richard E. Carter. In May the Institutes Council adopted a resolution commending Mr. Maclay for his long and outstanding service to the Institute and ALI-ABA and especially acknowledging his valuable assistance in assuring a smooth transition at ALI-ABA from the leadership of Paul Wolkin to that of Richard Carter. The new Deputy Director, Larry Meehan, is a graduate of Haverford College and Columbia Law School. He joined the Institute staff as a Law Fellow in 1977 and later served in the Course Department under Mr. Maclay. In 1987 he was named the first Director of the American Law Network, which now has 88 viewing sites nationwide and transmits more than 30 CLE and other law-related programs live via satellite to a national audience. In his new position Mr. Meehan will continue to have overall responsibility for the Network. |
