Judge Barbara Howe has served on the Erie County Surrogate’s Court in New York since 2004.

She joined the faculty of S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo in 1974 and became a tenured in 1981 and has served as an adjunct clinical professor of law since 2000 and an adjunct associate professor of sociology since 1988. She has also worked for Legal Aid and as a law clerk for Judge Edgar NeMoyer of the New York Court of Claims.

Judge Howe began her judicial career in 1988, when she became an associate judge of the Buffalo City Court. She was then elected to the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District, where she served from 1992 through 2003. She then joined the Surrogate’s Court in 2004.
