Seth Grossman is the Vice President of People and External Affairs & Chief of Staff and Counselor to President Sylvia M. Burwell at American University.

Mr. Grossman previously served as Chief of Staff to the President at University of California. In this role, he worked closely with President Janet Napolitano on UC system-wide administration, UC’s Global Food Initiative, and other top-priority projects. 

Prior to joining the UC Office of the President, he held the positions of Counselor to the Secretary, Deputy General Counsel, and Chief of Staff to the General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Mr. Grossman clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, for Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
