2017 Pro Bono Hot List: WilmerHale

The National Law Journal sat down with Seth P. Waxman of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, the co-chair of the firm’s Supreme Court and appellate practice, to discuss the significant role pro bono work plays at his firm.

“We have average attorney billing 100 hours in pro bono last year. If you ask folks who run the firm, what are the hallmarks of the firm, there's no question that pro bono is in the very first couple of sentences," Mr. Waxman explains.

Just last year Mr. Waxman won an 8-1 high court ruling in Hurst v. Florida, which was one of the most significant death penalty cases since Ring v. Arizona in 2002. The firm spends 6,000 hours a year evaluating federal sentences for potential commutations and pardons, among other projects.
