Bradley Receives Carnegie Fellowship

ALI member Curtis A. Bradley of Duke Law School has been named a 2016 Andrew Carnegie Fellow. He is the first Duke scholar to receive this fellowship. Fellows are selected based on the originality, promise, and potential impact of their proposals.

Professor Bradley, the William Van Alstyne Professor of Law and Professor of Public Policy Studies at Duke University, will use the award to develop a global project titled "Comparative Foreign Relations Law and Democratic Accountability" that will help define the relatively new field of comparative foreign relations law.

"Curt Bradley is an extremely accomplished and insightful scholar in the field of foreign relations law, and his proposal promises to create a new and valuable field of scholarship and inquiry," said ALI President-Designate and Dean of Duke Law School, David F. Levi. "This fellowship provides a well-deserved opportunity to extend his research and writing as well as his influence."

Professor Bradley serves as a Reporter on the Restatement of the Law Fourth, Foreign Relations Law – Treaties project, portions of which are set for membership vote at this year’s Annual Meeting.

Along with Jack Goldsmith of Harvard Law School, Professor Bradley recently contributed a New York Times op-ed piece discussing a nation’s immunity from lawsuits in the courts of another nation, a fundamental principle of international law.
