Heather Gerken to Become Dean of Yale Law School

President Peter Salovey of Yale Law School announced in an official university message that ALI member Heather Gerken will be the next dean of Yale Law School, effective July 1. She will be the university’s first woman dean.

Professor Gerken co-founded and is the faculty advisor to the San Francisco Affirmative Litigation Project, a Yale Law School clinic that works with the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office to address local issues with a national impact. Some of the issues the clinic has worked on are consumer protection, nuisance abatement, wage theft, internet privacy, healthcare, fairness in arbitration, childhood health and nutrition, and access to legal services for immigrants. Professor Gerken will continue to oversee the clinic as dean, and will be one of the only deans in the nation to oversee a clinic while leading the school.
