Kirk Watson Elected Mayor of Austin

Kirk Preston Watson has been elected mayor of Austin, Texas. Watson previously held the position of mayor over two decades ago from 1997 to 2001.

“I’m as grateful today as I was 25 years ago to be entrusted with this job,” said Watson after the vote was announced. “It means a lot to me to know that Austinites in every part of this city still want the kind of leadership that I’ve tried to deliver both as mayor and as your state senator.”

In addition to his time as mayor, Watson served as a Texas state senator for over 13 years. He was the founding dean for the Hobby School of Affairs at the University of Houston.
