Kathryn Oberly was Associate Judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals from 2009 to 2013. Prior to joining the bench, she was Vice Chair and General Counsel at Ernst & Young LLP. Judge Oberly previously was a partner in the Washington, DC office of Mayer Brown & Platt, and also served as an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States and an appellate lawyer in the Land and Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.
 
After law school, she clerked for Judge Donald P. Lay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

She was elected to the ALI in 1995 and was elected to the Council in 2002.
