Stephanie Middleton joined the staff of ALI as Deputy Director in March 2010. She previously served as Staff Director and General Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Before that she was Chief Counsel for litigation at CIGNA Corporation, a global multi-line insurance and health-services firm headquartered in Philadelphia. She also served as Deputy General Counsel for Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge. Ms. Middleton began her legal career as an associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Philadelphia.

She was Judge of Elections and was elected to the Council of Rose Valley Borough, Pennsylvania. She has served on the boards of the Crozer-Keystone Health System, the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church USA, the Wallingford Art Center, the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (PICA), the Committee of Seventy, and the Green Tree School.
