Monte A. Jackel is the principal of Jackel Tax Law. He is the Graduate Tax Program Scholar in Residence at the University of Baltimore School of Law. With a deep background in all aspects of Federal tax consulting and planning, he is nationally known for his expertise in the area of partnership taxation, where he has advised taxpayers ranging from Fortune 500 companies to closely held businesses and their owners.

Monte has practiced federal tax law for over 40 years in both the private sector and the Federal government. Monte initially served as an Attorney-Advisor in the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy, Washington, D.C., where he worked on many significant partnership guidance projects, as well as projects in other areas of Federal tax law, particularly relating to financial products, corporate taxation and international tax. In the national office of the IRS’ Office of Chief Counsel, Washington, D.C., Monte first served as the Associate Chief Counsel (Domestic-Technical), where he supervised the technical projects produced by all of the domestic divisions of the Office of Chief Counsel, and later as both a Special Counsel in the Passthroughs and Special Industries division, where he advised on various partnership guidance projects and, most recently, as Special Counsel to the Chief Counsel where he advised on various issues of Federal tax law in all areas of the Internal Revenue Code.

Monte is a prolific writer and speaker, with a national reputation for writing and scholarship. Monte speaks periodically at various national and local tax conferences and seminars. He is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, and the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C., and is a fellow at the American College of Tax Counsel and also is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the D.C. Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the National Tax Association, and the National Association of Tax Professionals.

Monte graduated with a B.A., Queens College, CUNY; a J.D., Hofstra University School of Law; and an LL.M. in Taxation, New York University School of Law.
