Michael Troncoso is Vice President and Head of Justice & Opportunity at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.
Mike leads one of CZI's three core initiatives and serves on the executive management team. His team harnesses investment, advocacy, and technology to accelerate reforms in U.S. criminal justice policy, immigration policy, and housing affordability. Prior to CZI, he served in senior roles in health care, government, and higher education. Most recently, he was managing counsel for health affairs and technology for the University of California, the world’s largest public research university system. He advised UC's health care and research enterprises on regulatory matters and transactions, with emphasis on matters involving emerging technologies and health data. Earlier, he held senior executive roles at the California Department of Justice, was a trial attorney and assistant chief attorney for policy in the San Francisco District Attorney's office, a litigation associate at two international law firms, and a law clerk to a federal district court judge. In recognition of his advocacy work, Mike was named one of the “Top 20 Attorneys Under 40” in California and was named California Lawyer’s Attorney of the Year. He is a proud member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and the San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association, where he recently served on the board of directors.
