Catherine Kessedjian Elected Associate by the Institute of International Law

The Institut de Droit International has elected University Panthéon-Assas Paris II professor Catherine Kessedjian, Arbitrator and Mediator, as an Associate Member. Associates are selected from among those nations who have given service to international law either in the field of theory or in that of practice. They have the right to speak and vote, save in respect of elections of Honorary Members, members of the Bureau, and members of the Council of the Auxiliary Foundation.

The Institute of International Law was founded in 1873. Eleven international lawyers decided to join together to create a private institution, independent of any governmental influence, which would be able both to contribute to the development of international law and act so that it might be implemented.

In 1904 the Institute of International Law was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its action in favor of arbitration among States, a peaceful means of settling disputes.
