Hubbard Receives Burton Award for ‘Leadership in Law’

Council Member William C. Hubbard of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia, S.C.is the first recipient of The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement, “Leadership in Law” award.

The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement, held in Association with the Library of Congress, and Co-Sponsored by the American Bar Association, were launched 17 years ago primarily to recognize good legal writing. But over the years, the awards have expanded, with a variety of categories recognizing excellence also in teaching, journalism, public service in government, public interest work and efforts by general counsel.

In a statement, William C. Burton, founder and chairman of the foundation, said, “We’re at a sea change in the world of law and William Hubbard is an example of how to grapple with new issues as they evolve. He is a man of vision who is trying to make change, to respond to great needs in the legal profession.”

In addition to serving on ALI’s Council, Mr. Hubbard is an Adviser on the Principles of the Law, Police Investigations, and Restatement of the Law, Charitable Nonprofit Organizations, projects, and serves on the Members Consultative Group for the Restatement of the Law Third, Torts: Liability for Economic Harm project.
