William C. Hubbard in the ABA Journal: “The organized bar must address attacks on the judiciary”

In an insightful op-ed piece for the ABA Journal, William C. Hubbard discusses the ever increasing need for vigilance in the protection of judiciary independence.

Mr. Hubbard suggests that constitutional democracy depends on proper separation of powers and how organizations like the ABA, the American College of Trial Lawyers, and other professional law organizations, have supported, and have a continuous responsibility to support, judiciary independence and the status of the judiciary as a co-equal branch of government.

He states, “The privilege of practicing law carries with it the sacred obligation to protect the rule of law, one of the elements of which is an independent judiciary.”

The article goes on to mention the Magna Carta, Alexander Hamilton and several different instances of the law in which judicial independence is crucial, while providing further insight and quotation from influential judicial voices, past and present.
