The Anatomy of a Restatement
The Anatomy of a Restatement
Tom Baker (Penn Law), Reporter for the Restatement of the Law, Liability Insurance, explains the various parts of a Restatement and discusses the goal and purpose of each component: Black letter, Comments, Illustrations and Reporter's (or Reporters') Notes.
Black letter and Comments (including the Illustrations) are approved by ALI’s members and the Council and represents the position of the Institute; Reporter’s (or Reporters’) Notes are regarded as the work of the Reporters, and are thus not approved by ALI members or the Council, however the Notes often contain many citations and direction that many researchers find particularly useful.
