Sarah S. Vance is the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Before joining the bench in 1994, she was a partner in the New Orleans firm of Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann & Hutchinson, where her practice focused on antitrust and commercial litigation.
Chief Judge Vance was elected to the ALI in 1996 and was elected to the Council in 2013. She is an Adviser on the Restatement of the Law of Liability Insurance project and is on the Members Consultative Group for the Principles of Government Ethics project.
