On Wednesday, November 11, 2015, the American Academy of Arts & Sciences will host its Inaugural Distinguished Morton L. Mandel Annual Public Lecture, Making Justice Accessible. This panel discussion on the impediments that the low-income Americans face in their pursuit of justice will feature ALI Council members Goodwin Liu of the California Supreme Court, and Diane Wood of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Chief Judge Diane Wood is also a commissioner of the Commission on Language Learning, established by the American Academy at the request of Congressional members. The Commission will examine the current state of language education in the United States, identify the future education needs, and recommend approaches to meet those needs.
