Camille Wright Cook passed away on February 21. She was 93.
Elected to ALI in 1978, Professor Cook was the John S. Stone Professor Emerita of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law. She taught at the college for 24 years before retiring in 1993. Professor Cook became the first tenured female member of the faculty in 1976 and the first woman to hold an endowed chair in 1992 when she was named the John S. Stone Chair of Law.
Professor Cook’s awards included the ALI Award of Special Merit, University of Alabama’s Distinguished Alumna Award, University of Alabama’s Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award, the Walter P. Gewin Award for Outstanding Service to Continuing Legal Education, the Award of Merit from the Alabama State Bar, and the Sam W. Pipes Distinguished Alumna Award from the School of Law.
