Paul L. Friedman
Paul L. Friedman is Secretary of ALI and has served on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia since 1994. Prior to joining the bench, Friedman practiced at the law firm of White & Case for 18 years and was Managing Partner of its Washington office. He previously was an Assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States and an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
Friedman received his B.A. from Cornell University and his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was elected to the ALI in June 1984 and was elected to the Council in October 1998. He serves on the Members Consultative Group for the Principles of Government Ethics project and is the former Chair of the Ad Hoc Committee on Membership Process. He is now a member of the Membership Committee.
