Revesz Examines EPA Regulatory Analysis

August 03, 2026

ALI Director Emeritus and Council member Richard L. Revesz recently authored a Slate commentary examining changes in how the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency evaluates the health benefits and costs associated with air-pollution regulations.

Revesz, the AnBryce Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus at New York University School of Law and former Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, discusses the EPA’s recent approach to quantifying public-health benefits from reductions in air pollution. Drawing on his expertise in environmental and regulatory law and policy, he considers how the agency’s approach differs from prior regulatory practice and the potential legal and policy implications.
