John J. (Mike) McKetta is retired from Graves Dougherty Hearon & Moody in Austin, TX, where he primarily handled business litigation. He previously practiced in Washington, DC, at Covington & Burling.
Mr. McKetta was elected to the ALI in 1991 and was elected to the Council in 1998. He has served on the Members Consultative Groups for the Principles of the Law of Liability Insurance and the Restatement of The Law, Consumer Contracts projects.
In his career, Mr. McKetta tried more than 100 cases to conclusion. In 2005, he was selected as the Commercial Litigation winner in the Austin Business Journal’s Best of Business Attorneys and Corporate Counsel Awards. In 2010, The Texas Bar Foundation selected Mr. McKetta for the Ronald D. Secrest Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award. That award is given annually to “an active trial lawyer who, by his or her practice, has demonstrated outstanding trial and advocacy skills, has demonstrated high ethical and moral standards, and has demonstrated exceptional professional conduct, thus enhancing the image of the trial lawyer.”
He has been active as a leader in matters affecting the legal profession and in civic matters related to his hometown, Austin. During his legal career, Mr. McKetta was also active with the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
