Gelvina Rodriguez Stevenson is General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and VP of Government Relations at the Wistar Institute, an biomedical research institute. Prior to that role, Gelvina served as an Associate General Counsel at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), as Associate university Counsel at Weill Cornell Medical College, Legislative Attorney to the Health Committee of the New York City Council, and as an Associate at Chadbourne & Parke LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright).  

 

Gelvina is an Adjunct Professor at the Drexel University School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies where she teaches courses on drug and device law.

 

Gelvina serves as Co-chair of the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) Health and Life Sciences Section and the Child Center of New York.  Gelvina previously served as a Board Member of the American Health Lawyers Association.

Current Challenges Facing the Judiciary

Ten years ago, Duke Law School began publishing Judicature. Among the articles published in that first Duke edition was a lecture titled “Grand Challenges, Grand Ideas,” by David F. Levi, then-dean of Duke Law School. He highlighted five key issues of keen concern to the judiciary: access to justice; justice at a reasonable cost; an independent, transparent judiciary; criminal justice reform; and maintaining a sense of purpose.
