Murray Snow was born and raised in Boulder City, Nevada.  He received his bachelor's degree (1984) and his law degree (1987) from Brigham Young University.  He was the editor-in-chief of the Brigham Young University Law Review in 1986-87, and served as a law clerk to the Hon. Stephen H. Anderson, U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit in 1987-88.

 

Murray is a former partner with Osborn Maledon, P.A. in Phoenix, Arizona. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Law and Political Science at Arizona State University, a member of the Arizona State Bar Committee on the Rules of Professional Conduct and a member of the working group that revised the Arizona Code of Professional Conduct in 2002.

 

In 2002, Murray was appointed to Division One of the Arizona Court of Appeals by Governor Jane D. Hull.   While a member of the Court of Appeals, Judge Snow was the Dean of the Judicial College of Arizona and the chair of the Arizona Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct, which revised the Arizona Canons of Judicial Conduct in 2008.   He has been active in educating lawyers and the public on the United States Constitution and the role of the courts. 

 

In July 2008, the United States Senate approved President George W. Bush’s nomination of Murray to serve as a judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. Murray has been a member of the Ninth Circuit Education Committee and has served as co-chair of the Administrative Office’s Judicial Programs and Services Advisory Council. Murray served as Chief Judge for the District of Arizona from September 4, 2018 through October 20, 2024. He has been the Chair of the Conference of Chief Judges and has served on the Ninth Circuit Judicial Council and its executive committees. 

 

He and his wife, Cheri, have four eclectic children and fifteen precocious grandchildren.
