Professor Hurt is the inaugural Alan R. Bromberg Centennial Chair in Corporate, Partnership, Business, and Securities Law at SMU Dedman School of Law. Before joining the faculty at SMU in 2022, she was the George Sutherland Chair at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University and Professor of Law and Director of the Illinois Business Law & Policy Program at the University of Illinois College of Law. Professor Hurt is the co-author of the leading treatise on partnership law, Bromberg & Ribstein on Partnership and researches and writes at the intersection of entity governance, fiduciary duties, and securities fraud. She also served one term on the National Adjudicatory Council of FINRA. Professor Hurt currently teaches courses in business organizations, securities regulation, and corporate taxation.While directing the Legal Research and Writing program at the University of Houston Law Center in 1999, she co-pioneered the Interactive Citation Workbook (LexisNexis). Prior to joining the legal academy, she practiced law at Baker Botts L.L.P. and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Houston, Texas.
