Byron Stier is Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives, Professor of Law, Co-Director of the Panish Civil Justice Program, and Director of the Civil Litigation and Advocacy Concentration at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, where he previously served as Associate Dean for Research. He has also served as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford Law School. For the Association of American Law Schools, he has served as a member of the Executive Committees for both the Section on Litigation and the Section on Torts and Compensation Systems and as Chair of the Section on Litigation. He served as Co-President of the Harvard Law School Association of Los Angeles and member of the Council of the Harvard Law School Association. He also served as Liaison of the American Bar Association Section of International Law to the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar and was named a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He serves as founding editor of the Mass Tort Litigation Blog. He previously practiced as a litigator at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Jones Day in New York. He received his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as Senior Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy; LL.M. from Temple University School of Law, where he was a Freedman Fellow and Lecturer in Law; and B.A., summa cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Benjamin Franklin Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa.
