Derek P. Langhauser is the President of the Maine Community College System. He served as General Counsel of MCCS from 1994 to 2015. From 1998 to 2012, he served part-time as Special Counsel to Maine Senator Olympia J. Snowe. Previously, he practiced maritime law at Kaplan & Associates and, before that, served as Chief Counsel to Maine Governor John R. McKernan, Jr.

Mr. Langhauser was elected to the ALI in October 2003 and was elected to the Council in May 2009. He serves as Chair of the Special Committee on Technology and is an Adviser on the Model Penal Code: Sexual Assault and Related Offenses project. He is also on the Members Consultative Group for the Restatement of the Law, Charitable Nonprofit Organizations project.
