A recent New York Times article addresses the precautions taken and obstacles faced by the Obama Administration in an effort to separate his presidential duties from his campaign responsibilities during this year’s presidential election.
“The public is very cynical about ethics issues across the board, so anybody in the administration going even close to the line is not going to help Secretary Clinton,” said Principles of the Law, Government Ethics Associate Reporter Richard W. Painter of the University of Minnesota Law School, who is quoted in the article. Professor Painter served as President George W. Bush’s chief ethics lawyer from 2005 to 2007.
