Thomas H. Boyd of Winthrop & Weinstine has received the Richard S. Arnold Award for Distinguished Service from the Eighth Circuit Bar Association. The award, named in honor of former Chief Judge Richard S. Arnold, was presented to Boyd during the Eighth Circuit Judicial Conference on August 1, 2025.

Tom Boyd joined the Minneapolis law firm of Winthrop & Weinstine in 1989 and became a shareholder in 1995. Tom represents clients in all types of complex commercial litigation, both at trial and on appeal. In addition to being recognized as a leading appellate advocate, Tom is active in federal and bar affairs, serving on numerous committees and providing leadership in the Eighth Circuit Historical Society and the Minnesota Humanities Committee.
Mr. Boyd earned his B.A., M.A., and J.D from the University of Iowa and served as Note and Comment Editor on the Iowa Law Review. Prior to joining Winthrop & Weinstine, Tom clerked for the Honorable Ronald E. Longstaff of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Iowa and later for the Honorable Donald P. Lay, then Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. After joining Winthrop & Weinstine, Tom also served as a legal writing instructor at the University of Minnesota Law School and as an adjunct professor at the William Mitchell College of Law. From 2009 through 2019 and from 2023 through the present, Tom has also served as Special Assistant Attorney General for the North Dakota Attorney General’s office.
