John Lewis has more than 50-years’ experience in litigation, appellate practice and in ADR preparation and enforcement. He began his career in St. Louis, Missouri, and later moved to Cleveland, Ohio, ultimately practicing with three major law firms there. His Cleveland practice focused on labor and employment litigation, appellate work and preparation of amicus briefs in the federal appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an elected member of the American Law Institute (Life Member), and a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers. He is a Master Bencher of the William K. Thomas Inn of Court, was its President from 2018 until 2019, during which time the Inn was awarded the American Inns of Court, Achieving Excellence, Platinum Level status. On January 11, 2022, the ABA International Litigation & Dispute Resolution Committee republished an article he wrote entitled “How Far Can an Arbitration Agreement Go in Waiving Court Review of an Award?” He has published a wide variety of articles and blogs dealing with ADR, class actions and defamation. Most recently he co-authored articles entitled “Searching for Clarity Amid Confusion: An Examination of the Standards for Determining Waiver and Revival of the Right to Arbitrate”, 67 Kansas L. Rev. 327 (2018) and New York Times v. Sullivan at 60: Where Does Defamation Law Go Now?”, 73 DePaul L. Rev. 995 (2024). He currently is an Adjunct Instructor for the Case Western Reserve University Law School Foreign LL.M. Program.
